Twas the night before garbage collection
And all through the yard
Not a creature was stirring
'Cept a moose named Gerard

I was at my computer
The dog at my feet
The children were all watching
some Disney repeat

When all of the sudden
There arose such a clatter
I ran to the door
To see what was the matter

And there on our deck
Was Bob the black bear
His face in the garbage
Eating lasagna extraordinaire

He climbed half way
Into the big can
Laughing myself silly
For the camera I ran

Then Bob took the can
And on the deck he did roll
And used that ol' can
Like a big ol' soup bowl

He rolled onto his back
With his feet in the air
The garbage poured out
But he didn't care

We stood at the door
Laughing at Bob
As he finished the eggshells
And last weeks corn cobs

When he was finished
He came up to the door
Looked through the window
"Hey Mom! Is there more?"

I waved my arms at him
to shoo him away
He left the deck backward
Done with us for the day

He went to my brother's
Who's house is next door
And climbed for the feeders
He was ready for more

He broke lots of branches
While retrieving the seeds
Then back on the ground
On the goodies he did feed

I looked at my deck
And into the can
There was little left now
For the poor garbage man

But what was left
We unhappily did clean
While Bob of birdfeeders
Did happily dream

And now once again
It is Wednesday at night
We're waiting for Bob
And feeling uptight

Happily I know
Soon Bob'll be asleep
And the birdies will party
Chip, chirp, chip, chip, cheap!
